#GetTogether for International Women’s Day

Share in top social networks!

The 8th of March marks International Women’s Day, and, as some of you may know, Oxfam uses this day to raise awareness of the inequality women in developing countries face every day. They are asking UK women to host a “Get Together” amongst their girlfriends to raise money to help them continue their good work.

Perhaps you can host a clothes swap, or an afternoon tea, whatever you want to do to Get Together, you can claim a free pack from Oxfam at www.oxfam.org.uk/Womens-Day.

Or, if you prefer to take part online, The Lazy Girl is hosting an Online Get Together over at Twitter. It starts at 7pm on the 3rd of March, and BritMums members both male and female are invited to take part.

All you have to do is link to the @OxfamGB twitter, or tweet the Get Together link mentioned above, but whatever you decide to tweet, remember to add the #gettogether or #onlinegettogether hashtags to any or all your tweets for that night!

If you choose to join in further, there will be some great spot prizes on the night, including gifts from Pillow Pets, MakeanEntrance.com and toyboxlive.co.uk.

What else can you take part in on the night itself and in the week before

  • From Monday 27th February, you can post under the topic of “What Freedom Means to Me”. Whether you went to college, have a career or you want to tell us why you feel privileged to live with equality, you can write a post and link up at The Lazy Girl Blog on Thursday 1st March. Remember to also link up at Britmums, and tweet your link with the Get Together hashtag
  • At the Oxfam site you can find out what little amounts of money they need to make things equal and save lives too. If you find an amount that surprises you, tweet it. If you can see an amount you spend on a coffee, magazine or shoes and want to tweet it (eg. “Today I spent £1.50 on a coffee, but @OxfamGB can use £1.50 to immunise a child”), then let other’s know!
  • There will be a Women Rock themed Friday Twiz, with questions relating to all things lady related (eg. women in history, music etc) on the 2nd March at the usual @FridayTwiz twitter

If you want to write a post in support then go for it- and invite as many friends as you like to join in. Remember, we are not begging for donations, we just want to help raise awareness of Oxfam and the great work these volunteers do around the world.

You can also add the badge to your posts or to your page too.

Whatever you do, remember it’s a fun way to help a charity and better still you can take part make up free in your jammies!

Let’s knock One Direction off the UK trends and get #gettogether trending! Oxfam are looking forward to seeing how we do too.

Any questions or suggestions are welcome, so get in touch.
