Welcome to my first photography blog round up for BritMums! Today, I want to focus on the topic of inspiration. I used to spend heaps of money on pictorial coffee table books. Let’s put it this way: I’d need an awful lot of coffee tables to display my library and it got to the point where my husband suspended my Amazon account.
Thankfully, we now have the Internet where inspiration is free. I thought for my first photography round-up I would share some sites that I find inspiring. Some are by mums; some are by dads; some are British; others are from around the globe. All have one thing in common: great information and interesting content for photographers. Enjoy! And if you have any photoblogs that you enjoy, please do email me at julia@juliaboggiostudios.com and I’ll check them out.
Dear Photograph – The first time I saw this site, I was in love. I started dreaming of getting hold of my childhood picture albums and going to everywhere I’d ever been to do this. It’s nostalgic, beautiful, and poignant, reminding us of our journey so far.
Love Your Pics – Emma introduced herself to me when I put a call out on Twitter for photographers who were parents to get in touch and let me know their stories of achieving work-life balance for a talk I was giving on the subject. I checked out her site and immediately thought it was a great idea. Wonderful information and fun project ideas for the hobby photographer.
Photo Nut – Damien is a father, who moved away from shooting weddings on weekends to offering training for photographers, so he could spend more time with his daughter. (Awww!) His blog is always full of well-executed, beautiful photo shoots and technical information for pro and amateur photographers.
Pinterest – Okay, this isn’t technically a blog, but it’s an amazing resource for inspiration. I can spend hours just swinging from picture to picture and oohing and awing. It’s a testament to how much talent is out there.
Kristen and Kayla – Speaking of Pinterest, it’s where I first came across the work of Jason Lee, who takes the most fun photographs of his two daughters. As a recent mother myself who is enjoying creating a portfolio of silly photos of her baby, I thought this was magnificent. And the girls are obviously having a blast, playing model with their daddy.
Mila’s Daydreams – And here’s a mother who has clearly enjoyed taking pictures of her baby, Mila. Adele Enerson comes from an advertising & design background and had fun creating these portraits out of items she found around the house using a little Canon Ixus. Then she got a book deal out of it! If you like these, also check out the work of Jan van Holleben (http://www.janvonholleben.com/?page_id=4).
The Photography Parlour – Although Rosie hasn’t posted anything in here for a little while, the archive still contains loads of interesting interviews with photographers that are inspiring in their own right. I’ve been promising her an interview for ages, but having Baby sort of got in the way. It’s on my To Do list!
Love My Dress – I remember when Annabel had her last baby, she still managed to keep her site going with her usual engaging content. Very impressive! Her site is mainly wedding related and she has an eye for choosing great photography. She’ll be one of the many mummy blogger coming along to check out BritMums Live! so maybe you can meet up with her there.
