Conserving energy around the house and making smart choices about gas and electricity usage are important to families. These issues not only mean a greener way of life for parents and children, it can add up to money in your pocketbook.
BritMums and British Gas have teamed up to create this Smart Mums site – a way for parents to share ideas on how to spend less on home energy and trade tips on green living.
How you can get involved
We have just announced the “Smart Mums Watt Loss Challenge“, in which you post a picture of a green action you take around your house (flicking off light switches, putting draft excluders around the doors and windows) for a chance to win £250 in Sainsburys vouchers.
We’ll have videos and post from leading bloggers about how they educate their children about saving energy.
We’ll also be talking about the move for every home to have a smart meter in a bid to reduce energy usage. The UK Government has committed to that goal and has set a target for all UK homes to have a smart meter by 2019. Smart meters work with an smart energy monitor to show how much energy you’re using and how much it’s costing in real-time. British Gas is taking the lead and beginning to install smart meters in customers’ homes now, free of charge, as part of a drive to help energy users understand and control their energy use.
