It’s that time of week again and praise the Lord we all got through Blue Monday in one piece. Just! Only got the rest of the week to go now! This week, I have mostly been going to the gym (once,) eating fairy cakes (twice,) and bemoaning the fact that I now I have to catch the chuckle bus into work (every day.) I had zero street cred as it was.
So, without further ado…here are the posts that caught my attention this week.
A cracker to start with! The delectable Sandy from Baby Baby tells us, ‘Why I’m Glad I Always Carry my Swiss Card.’ In an ode to 127 Hours, Sandy explains how she had to gnaw off her own arm. Sort of. It also involves pooing in a supermarket. The similarities to the film are uncanny.
In How To Be A Good Mother: I have the answer, Lisa from Mummy Whisperer talks about the recent TV programme of the same name. I happened to be eating a chocolate brownie when one particular mother was baking placentas. Yes, baking placentas. Yum. For a different take on how to be a good mum, Lisa has some simple advice.
I really feel for Merry from Patch of Puddles right now. In her extremely honest post, 35 Weeks Pregnant, she talks about her fears for her baby as the birth approaches, following the sad loss of her baby boy, Freddie. I can’t begin to imagine what she’s going through but want to wish her the very best of luck.
Insomniac Mummy revealed the winner of Tescos Compassionate Mum of the Year and after reading it, I just needed to share the story with you all. After the devastating death of her best friend, Julie Jones took on the care of her friend’s six children. Julie is a single mother herself with three children and I’m just so inspired by this woman – it’s a story everyone should read.
Turns out, Ben from Goodbye Pert Breasts is a genius songwriter. I mean genius! In Caught in a Blog Bromance, Ben’s got his Gaga on and is serenading all the daddy bloggers out there. Very funny … but get a room boys!
I love Jen from Mum in the Madhouse. She really is an adorable woman with the biggest heart. This week, she wrote about the sad loss of a very influential woman in her life as a teenager, and I could really identify with losing someone who gives you comfort, counsel and stability. Saying Goodbye is always hard and it sounds like she will be very much missed.
As someone who *cough* finds using profanities SO uncouth … I loved Vicki’s post from Honest Mum about her two year old uttering The F Word at the most awkward of times. We’ve all been there, right? If Vicki is to be believed, ‘f*ck’ is Greek for cake – I’m borrowing that excuse!
I’ve had an extended blogging break over Christmas and thought how great it would be just to have a sign that it was time for me to come back to the Blogosphere. I didn’t mind you … but Spudballoo did. In Blogging … It’s the Little Things, she shares with us how she was given two signs that it was time to blog again. The post is also worth reading to see the most beautiful photo of a bluebell wood I’ve ever seen.
We all know that Homophobia Is Not Funny and Melaina from Transatlantic Blonde has written a very thought-provoking post about this subject. I too agree that there’s very little difference between outright, hateful, in-your-face homophobia and passive, inferential homophobia – neither are OK. Well worth a read.
And finally, Liz Jarvis from The Mum Blog brings us Look into my Eyes. Liz has posted the most adorable picture of a sea lion looking up at her whilst holidaying in Florida. Sealions are so cute! (I too am available for blogger trips to Florida!
)
On that note, it’s Sausage Wednesday (ooerr…). Beats Blue Monday any day! Until next time…

Thank you for including my post. I think we can all identify with my new expression’ I can blog about it now, but at the time it was terrible’!
