Guest post: Pump up your blog with NaBloPoMo

NaBloPoMoWhat the blithering ‘eck is NaBloPoMo I hear you ask? NaBloPoMo stands for National Blog Posting Month and the goal is to write (and publish) a post every day… yep, every day, including weekends… in the month of November.

It’s a great way to get back on the blogging bandwaggon (if you’ve fallen off), or simply to get the creative juices flowing. Of course, you may well have heard of NaBloPoMo, and even taken part, if you completed, then Congratulations; if you’re a #NaBloPoMoFail then this is your big chance to set the record straight!

A couple of years ago I took part in NaNoWriMo – National Novel Writing Month, which also happens in November. The goal there is to write 50,000 words of a novel in the month of November. I did my best but fell well behind half way through. This year, I was considering doing it again and then I heard about NaBloPoMo…

“Ah ha, something a bit more achievable”, I thought to myself. And – as with all these things – I started thinking of ways to get motivated. Well, what better way to motivate yourself than to first tell lots of people you’re doing it and then to invite them to take part too? So, will you join me?

I’ll be posting daily writing prompts on the Facebook Group NaBloPoMo UK and will also post a daily prompt for everyone to add their posts in the comments on FB so that we can check out each others posts and comment on them.

You might want to do it as a challenge, to improve your writing, from some masochistic desire to flog yourself, as a freeing exercise or for some other reason entirely. Whatever your reason, do join up and give it a go; we’ll have some fun along the way. It’s a great way to get your blog going, build readership, get in the habit of blogging and be supported by lots of other great bloggers.

And, if you don’t want to take part, do check out the FaceBook page to see how we’re all doing… who knows, it might inspire you to take part next year.

A little bit of History: National Novel Writers Month was started in San Fansisco in 1999 with 21 people committing to write a novel in the month of July. The following year it was moved to November and 150 people took part; move on 10 years and there are now over 200,000 people taking part worldwide. NaBloPoMo was started in 2005 byEden Kennedy and is now run by BlogHer – you can join in with NaBloPoMo officially by joining up to BlogHer and joining the NaBloPoMo blogroll.

Fiona Cooper blogs about creativity, trying to be eco, Neuro Linguistic Programming and just about anything else that takes her fancy… Her blog can be found at www.nlpmum.com.

Gosh! I was a NaNoWriMo winner last year and while I’d LOVE to write a post every day, I’m not sure my poor subscribers would cope with my inane wittering as I desperately tried to keep their interest…… Will watch your blog with interest. Good luck.
